Turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing are among Americans' favorite Thanksgiving dishes, according to an online survey of more than 2,000 Americans conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of Instacart in September 2024.

To find out what Americans were loading their grocery carts in preparation for Turkey Day, Instacart revealed that Americans were loading up their grocery carts to prepare for Turkey Day. We compared the share of items purchased in preparation for Turkey Day with the share of items purchased in preparation for Turkey Day. We compared the rest of the year and identified the categories with the greatest relative differences.
Below is a complete list of items that are more likely to be purchased during the week leading up to and including Thanksgiving Day than at any other time of the year.

According to Instacart, the top foods Americans bought for Thanksgiving were whole turkey, fresh cranberries, frozen whole turkey, pumpkin pie, and canned cranberries. (Instacart)
Top item? Whole turkey.
According to Instacart shopping data, this Thanksgiving staple is up a whopping 5,096% compared to the rest of the year, closely followed by cranberries (up 3,777%) and frozen round turkey (up 3,619%) I did.
Rounding out the top five are two sweet treats. Pumpkin pie and canned cranberries.
