US-based model, husband and child kidnapped and held 12 hours after leaving restaurant in Brazil: reports

“Armed criminals approached the victims outside the restaurant and detained them,” Brazilian police said in a statement, citing local reports by the New York Post.

Brazilian-born Curtis, 47, has modeled for brands such as Victoria's Secret and H&M, appeared on the covers of fashion magazines such as Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan, and worked with celebrities such as Beyoncé.

She has homes in New York, London, and Brazil.

The family was forced into their car by the kidnappers after dining in an upscale neighborhood in São Paulo. According to reports, they were forcibly taken by car to a hut on the outskirts of the city, equipped with only mattresses, toilets and sinks, where they were kept overnight.

They were released early Thursday morning after the kidnappers stole money from their bank accounts.

According to the newspaper, police said, “During the search by a specialized police team, the gang fled, abandoning their families.''

The couple's eldest son did not go to dinner with his family, but they called police when he did not return from dinner on Wednesday.

“The family has been released and is safe and well,” a representative for Curtis told local media, according to the paper.
