An enraged Uber Eats driver punched two sisters outside a Bronx jewelry store, leaving one alone when a dispute over a delivery on Thanksgiving eve turned violent, according to police and one of the victims. I lost consciousness.
Camille Abreu, 18, said she and her 22-year-old sister Stivalyn Abreu ordered and delivered $68 worth of food and paper products from Jazmine Jewelry in Kingsbridge Heights around 3 p.m. Wednesday. He said he asked a staff member to bring the items into the store.
The teen, who works part time at her brother's store on Jerome Avenue near East 204th Street, said despite the sisters' repeated calls, he refused and Kamil When she went outside to confront him, she became angry.
“He starts teasing [of me]he comes up to me, almost as if he's trying to confront me, and as soon as I say something, he's ready to throw a punch,” she told the Post in a phone interview Friday.
Later, when Stivalin went outside and told the delivery man to take the order to his house, he replied, “You don't have to do that,” Kamil said.
“Then he started saying he was part of a gang,” she recalled. “He kept talking about them and my sister. [said]”I'd like to cancel your order.” For example, call Uber Eats and let them know what happened. ”
Kamil said Stivalin tried to grab her bag as the apparent threat continued.
However, Kamil said the enraged delivery man did not give up easily and pushed Stivalin's hand, causing the bag to fall to the ground.
“We still didn't do anything because we weren't trying to touch him,” Kamil said. “We just weren't trying to get close to him and…he took the groceries that we paid for. He's trying to leave with the groceries.”
Kamil said the deliveryman allegedly made further threats, and the sisters noticed the jewelery store keys in her bag and gave chase.
“We just kept saying, 'I don't care,' trying to shut him up, trying to get him to leave,” the teen recalled.
“That's when he turned around. He punched my sister twice in the face and then once in the jawline. That's when she fell to the floor.”
“I kept trying to hit him with the keys, and I ended up hitting him, and I ended up punching him in the face once,” said Kamil, who allegedly hit Stivalin.
“That's when he hit me too. He hit me in the back of the neck.”
Stivalin suffered a concussion and was hospitalized for several hours before being released, his sister said.
“Her mouth was crushed and her face was swollen,” Kamil said.
Kamil said the delivery man brought back the sisters' orders, which included a gallon of milk, red bell peppers, cooked salami jamonada, avocados, onions, carrots, plantains, pasta, Lay's potato chips and Bounty potato chips. It included two paper towel rolls.
An Uber spokesperson said the delivery worker's actions were “unacceptable.”
“Violence of any kind is not tolerated on the Uber platform. We have contacted our customers and removed their drivers' access to the platform,” they told The Post on Friday night.
“We are assisting law enforcement with their investigation.”
The broad daylight attack ruined the Thanksgiving plans of the Abreu sisters, especially Stivalin, who had slept most of the day.
“She's that type of person. [who] She cares a lot about her face,” Kamil said.
“I mean, the fact that her face was swollen and… she had scars on her face, she really didn't want to be seen.”
Stivalin's mouth injuries made it difficult for him to enjoy the Thanksgiving feast, his sister said.
“It's still a little hard for her to eat because she can't open her mouth very much yet. So I didn't get to see her on Thanksgiving because I didn't want her to be seen.”
Kamil did not require hospital treatment, but the assault left him with some pain on the left side of his head.
She said the attack made her and Ms. Stiberlin, who has lived in the Bronx for seven years, afraid to go outside.
“Right now, I only take taxis. I don't really want to take the train or go outside,” Kamil said.
“This is the first time I've been out of the house since what happened. I had to come to the jewelry store on Black Friday.”
As for Stivlin, Kamil said, “My sister doesn't want to go outside.”
“She really doesn't want to be seen,” Kamil added.
“And she seems kind of scared, because [the suspect] I threatened to come back if I left. ”
New York City police released surveillance video of the suspect, describing him as approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a slim build, long braided hair, and a beard.
He was last seen wearing a blue Yankee hat, blue jacket, blue jeans, and white and black sneakers.
