With more and more employees feeling disconnected from their jobs, most employees are looking for, or are actively looking for, a new position. According to new research.
The Gallup poll, released Tuesday and surveyed full-time and part-time working adults, found that 51 percent of workers surveyed are looking for or are looking for a new job. Only 18% of U.S. employees say they are “very” satisfied with their current job.
Workers' satisfaction with their employers is at an all-time low, and job seekers are seeking new opportunities at the highest rate since 2015, the pollster said.
Gallup lists five changes that organizations and companies have made over the past few years that have contributed to increased dissatisfaction, the first of which is rapid organizational change.
Many organizations have experienced mass turnover and hiring growth since 2020, with 73% of employees saying they experienced disruptive change at work in the last year. Gallup also noted that changes in hybrid and remote work are having a lasting impact on the connection between employees and their organizations' missions.
Another reason for dissatisfaction is that employees have noticed a change in customer expectations since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Employer and new employee misalign expectations. and that leaders lack confidence in their performance management systems.
Gallup shared two potential solutions. First, remember that only 45% of employees know what is expected of them at work, and reset your expectations and priorities.
Second, another way to combat growing dissatisfaction was to find better ways to connect employees with the organization's mission and purpose.
The survey was conducted from October 23rd to November. 5 out of 22,558 employees. The margin of error was 1.2 percentage points.
