Dak Prescott wants to give Mike McCarthy another chance in Dallas.
The Cowboys quarterback is out with a season-ending hamstring injury and said this week that he feels “helpless” in terms of it affecting McCarthy's future.
“Your coach appears to be playing on his last contract. [I’m] You felt almost helpless not being able to help him in this situation, especially a guy you believe in so much and believe to be the head coach. ” Prescott told Yahoo! sports. “I’m going to control what I can control and help and support Mike as much as I can.”
In the interview, Prescott essentially advocated a contract extension for McCarthy, which would run through the end of this season and would be his fifth in Dallas.
“I really believe in him,” Prescott said. “Obviously I don't necessarily want to get into all the nitty-gritty and screws, but I think he definitely deserves a chance, another contract and a chance to coach this team with more influence.” “On his terms” might be a better way to put it. But I believe in him with all my heart. ”
McCarthy, who had a 47-32 record with the Cowboys, has been on the rise since Dallas was upset by the Packers in the Wild Card round last season.
At 5-7 entering Week 14, the Cowboys had a disappointing 2024, with Prescott playing in just eight games due to injury.
In late November, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he was unsure whether McCarthy would be shown to the door after the season.
“I don't think so. [extending his contract] It’s just crazy,” Jones said during an appearance on 105.3 “The Fan.” “He's a Super Bowl-winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there and done that. He's got great ideas.
“In conclusion, [in] Have you seen any signs in my body language or anything else about what we're going to do about this? [coaching] This is the staff at the end of this year. and we shouldn't [decide yet]. We have a lot of football left. ”
Since those comments, the Cowboys have extended their winning streak to two games by defeating the Giants 27-20 on Thanksgiving.
