Sam Altman brushes off Musk's influence in Trump administration amid tension

Sam Altman, CEO of tech company OpenAI, dismissed tech billionaire Elon Musk's influence in the incoming Trump administration, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

Altman pushed back against the idea that Musk might use his ties to Trump to target OpenAI.

“I strongly believe that Elon will do the right thing,” Altman said at the New York Times' Dealbook Summit. It's extremely un-American to use that.” According to the Times.

Musk and OpenAI have a checkered history, with the Tesla head and artificial intelligence company recently embroiled in a months-long legal battle, with Musk suing OpenAI multiple times. The tech billionaire co-founded OpenAI with Altman and Greg Brockman.

Musk sued OpenAI, Altman and Brockman in August, alleging that they tricked him into supporting his company's efforts by convincing them that safe and transparent artificial intelligence was a reality.

Musk has strongly supported Trump's presidential bid this year, speaking at multiple rallies and starting the pro-Trump super PAC America PAC, donating $118 million to the committee. .

Trump pulled Musk and his son into a family photo on election night, saying, “I have to bring Elon with my son.” He added that the tech billionaire's son was “gorgeous” and “perfect”.
