A police suspect has been arrested in California after allegedly breaking into President-elect Donald Trump's campaign office in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. According to to local governments.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Thursday that Toby Shane Kessler, 39, was taken into custody by the University of California, San Francisco Police Department on Saturday for illegally occupying a campus dormitory.
Kessler is accused of being involved in a break-in at the Trump campaign office in Ashburn, Virginia, in August. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said the man entered the office through the back door and spent a “brief” time there before leaving.
This office also serves as the headquarters for the Virginia 10th District Republican Committee.
The sheriff's office said Kessler is charged with robbery, but law enforcement has not said whether Kessler took anything from the office.
Sheriff Mike Chapman said at the time of the incident: “It is unusual for a political campaign or political party's offices to be broken into.” “We are determined to identify the suspect, investigate why the incident occurred, and determine what was taken and what was left behind.”
In mid-August, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said Kessler “appears to have a history of criminal activity and to have been in the Washington metropolitan area since at least 2018.”
The sheriff's office said he has a California driver's license.
