The suspect who shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson is believed by police to have left New York City, The Post has learned.
NYPD investigators believe the assassin came from out of town to kill Thompson and fled from an unknown location after carrying out the fatal act Wednesday, officials told the Post. told.
The masked man seen in surveillance footage from the murder scene was only seen smiling coldly, but he likely had no connection to the Big Apple and was in a hostel on the Upper West Side. He is believed to have been there for several days, officials said.
Officials said police believed the suspect had fled the city, possibly returning to an unknown residence, and were searching the city's airport, bus and train stations.
Investigators believe he arrived in the city on Nov. 24 on a bus from Atlanta to New York City. He checked into the hostel using a fake New Jersey ID.
