President-elect Donald Trump said his support for his nominee for Pentagon chief, Pete Hegseth, remains “strong and deep” despite numerous reports suggesting otherwise.
Allegations ranging from alcohol abuse to sexual misconduct have plagued Hegseth's confirmation bid since he was first appointed to the post in November. Hegseth and several of his colleagues have publicly denied these allegations.
“Pete Hegseth is doing very well,” President Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Friday. “His support is strong and deep. Much stronger than the fake news would have you believe.”
One of Hegseth's most notable obstacles comes from Republican Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa. Sources close to the Senate told Blaze News that Ernst had publicly campaigned against Hegseth's nomination. rejected these reports. Other news outlets reported that Mr. Hegseth's support within the Senate Republican conference was wavering more broadly.
Despite this, President Trump continues to wholeheartedly support Mr. Hegseth, reaffirming that his support in the Senate remains “strong and deep.”

There appears to be pressure on Mr. Hegseth to resign, but both President Trump and the nominee insist that Mr. Hegseth will move forward with the confirmation process.
As of this writing, two of President Trump's nominees have declined their candidacies.
President Trump initially nominated Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz to be the incoming attorney general in November, but withdrew after just two weeks because he felt he had become a political hindrance to the transition team. President Trump later nominated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to the position.
President Trump also hired Florida Sheriff Chad Chronister to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration on Sunday. Chronister withdrew his bid just days later on Tuesday after coming under fire for his past progressive policies and coronavirus response.
