Prince William to meet Donald Trump at Notre Dame reopening ceremony | Notre Dame

The Prince of Wales is set to meet President Donald Trump in Paris when he joins world leaders at the reopening ceremony of Notre Dame Cathedral.

Prince William will head to France on Saturday at the request of the French government for a high-profile event celebrating the restoration of the cathedral, the “soul of France”, after a devastating fire in 2019.

Kensington Palace said Prince William will meet with the US president-elect and first lady Jill Biden during his stay in Paris.

President Trump and dozens of other heads of state and government accepted an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron to attend the ceremony.

Prince William's last official visit to Paris was in 2017, when he and the Princess of Wales made a two-day trip in response to the Brexit vote.

Prince William also joined world leaders who took part in commemorations of the 80th anniversary of World War II's D-Day landings in Normandy earlier this year.

For France and the Catholic Church, the televised and tightly scripted ceremony will be an opportunity to demonstrate resilience and global influence.

Tickets for the first week's Mass sold out in 25 minutes, the cathedral's pastor said.

The first part of Notre Dame's revival will take place on Saturday night, with Archbishop Laurent Ulrich of Paris leading more than 1,500 guests in the reopening service.

An inaugural Mass will be held on Sunday, featuring a special ceremony to consecrate the high altar.
