Chicago Citizens Need to Vote on Sanctuary Policy

On Friday's broadcast of Newsmax TV's “National Report,” Rep. Jonathan Jackson (D-Ill.) said Chicago's sanctuary city status should be determined by a vote of its citizens, saying, “Chicago Citizens were not given that opportunity.” Vote again to decide if you want to remain a sanctuary city. “And if the public decides they don't want it to remain a protected area,” he said, “and if we decide to cancel the protected area, let's cancel it.”

After discussing the impact of the immigration surge on the city, Jackson said: This policy was implemented under Mayor Harold Washington. He was stopped from heading to the city council chambers. Chicagoans have the right to decide whether they want to be a sanctuary city. I fully support the city's process to decide whether to move forward with this policy. If not, and they decide to cancel it, cancel it. ”
