Christmas will be warm and bright, with no snow expected

The recent cold wave is changing, bringing with it a warming trend and hopes of snow on the ground for Christmas are about to disappear.

Fox Weather meteorologist Cody Blood said it may be too early to tell whether snow will fall in the New York City area on Dec. 25, but it's not likely.

“It’s probably not likely at this point,” Blood said Saturday.

“The pattern for the next two weeks leading up to Christmas looks like it's going to be warmer right now, not just for New York City, but probably for much of the country.”

The situation could change next week, he explained.

However, in his expert opinion, this will be a hassle-free vacation.

“If we get through this week, we won't see much cold air in the low 48s,” Brad said.

Brad said the jet stream doesn't seem to be dropping much from Canada, keeping temperatures well north of the country.

“So the chances of seeing snow with the system are limited,” he added, noting that a dome of high pressure is likely to be present in the middle of the country on Christmas Day.

“I think Christmas will be something of a transition period,” Elliott said, adding that temperatures will remain above normal during the Christmas period and then cool down by the end of the month.

“We're going to have at least a mild, warm period from next week until around Christmas. It's going to be tough to get through that,” Elliott said.
