Seven arrested in alleged drug ring with ties to Rutgers University

Seven people have been arrested and charged with involvement in a Rutgers University social media drug ring, according to the Middlesex County, New Jersey, Prosecutor's Office.

On Thursday, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone announced the arrests of seven people as a result of an extensive drug investigation, Operation RU Pharmacy.

Ciccone said the investigation, conducted over several months, uncovered private social media networks used by Rutgers students to buy and sell drugs.

The sting revealed that Rutgers University alumni had created a private social media network through which “drug distributors could post drug menus and recruit purchasers from within the Rutgers community.” .

Rutgers students who established a relationship with the school were allowed to join the network, browse a “menu,” and contact distributors to negotiate drug purchases.

Investigators also seized large amounts of marijuana, LSD, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, Adderall, Xanax, large amounts of U.S. currency, and guns.

Anudeep Revli, 23, a former Rutgers University student, is charged with being the first-degree leader of a drug trafficking network.

Joshua Duffy (20), Zachary Petersen (22), Katherine Tierney (23), David Nudelman (20), Donovin Williams (22), and Noah Lisimachio (21) are all , was charged with at least one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance.

Ciccone said the investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Task Force at 732-745-3300.

In 2020, another large drug ring involving college campuses was busted after fraternity members and students at the University of North Carolina and Duke University were arrested for pouring drugs onto three college campuses.

Federal law enforcement officials recently charged 21 people in connection with the scheme after an investigation that began in November 2018.

According to court filings, this illegal drug activity involved the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's chapters of Phi Gamma Delta, Kappa Sigma and Beta Theta Pi fraternities from 2017 to spring 2020. members were involved.

Prosecutors say the drug ring funneled more than a half-ton of marijuana, hundreds of kilograms of cocaine and large quantities of other drugs to UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University and Appalachian State University.

Prosecutors said the total proceeds from the human trafficking scheme exceeded $1.5 million.

Rutgers did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
