‘We’re Not Touching’ Social Security in Proposed Cuts to Government Spending

President-elect Donald Trump said Sunday on NBC's “Meet the Press” that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will not cut Social Security.

Host Kristen Welker said, “The president-elect will challenge billionaire CEO Elon Musk of Tesla and SpaceX to control government spending, along with businessman Vivek Ramaswami, one of Trump's former chief rivals.'' “We're ordering them to make cuts, and we're putting a spotlight on all of that.” about what that means for rights and defense spending. ”

she asked: “You named Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, which proposes cuts to the federal government. Many people hear that and worry about Medicare and Social Security. I think there is.”

Mr. Trump said. “It wouldn't have anything to do with that.”

Mr. Welker asked, “Are you going to stay away from Medicare and Social Security?”

President Trump said, “What we're talking about is theft, abuse, fraud.'' I said, “No, we're not talking about Social Security. Other than making Social Security more efficient.'' But people will take what they can get.

“So rights are off the table,” Welker said.

President Trump said, “I have no intention of raising the age or anything like that.''

He added, “I won't do it.”
