Biden Claims Credit for Toppling Assad

President Joe Biden gave a short speech at the White House on Sunday, claiming credit for overthrowing the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, who was ousted by rebels after decades of long and brutal rule.

Biden argued that it was a combination of US policy to isolate Assad. Binding Russia in Ukraine. And by allowing Israel freedom of action against Iran and its proxy Hezbollah, the regime has been weakened and without defenders.

Mr. Biden said:

For the past four years, my administration has pursued a clear and principled policy toward Syria. First, sanctions against Assad will continue unless he commits seriously to a political process aimed at ending the civil war, as outlined in a UN Security Council resolution passed in 2015. was made clear from the beginning. But Assad refused. So we implemented a comprehensive sanctions program against him and all those responsible for the atrocities against the Syrian people. Second, we will maintain a military presence in Syria to counter ISIS, to counter ISIS, to counter local partners and the support of local partners, to never cede territory, to remove ISIS leaders, and to ensure that ISIS He made it absolutely impossible to establish a nation. Once again there is a safe haven. Third, we support the Iran's network in Syria and the freedom of Israeli's actions in the alliance with Iran, which transports fatal supplies to Lebanon, to protect the U.S. military. ordered the use of military force against the network. Our approach has changed the balance of power in the Middle East. Through a combination of sanctions, diplomacy and, where necessary, targeted military support from our partners, we see new opportunities opening up for the Syrian people and the entire region.

Mr. Biden ignored the fact that President Barack Obama sought to build a relationship with the Assad regime and ignored Mr. Assad's use of chemical weapons despite drawing a “red line” in 2012. did. Both Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden were specifically seeking to establish a new balance of power. In the Middle East, it supported a stronger Iran despite its role in Syria. Furthermore, Biden did not give Israel freedom of action against Iran, instead insisting on Israeli restraint.
