‘Thank you Daniel’: Golf legend Phil Mickelson shows support for Daniel Penny for ‘protecting’ citizens

Three-time Masters Tournament champion Phil Mickelson gave a surprise endorsement to Daniel Penny, who was on trial in New York City for subduing a man on the subway and later died.

Mickelson is a longtime professional golfer who has been a mainstay on the PGA Tour (and later the LIV Tour) since the early 1990s. Now 54 years old, “Lefty” remains silent in public, but he has become increasingly vocal, sharing political topics.

On Friday, Mr. Mickelson released a statement about Mr. Penny, hours after the manslaughter charge against him was dropped and the jury was unable to reach a decision.

Witnesses also reported that the man was making death threats against passengers.
