New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Police Chief Jessica Tisch commented on the arrest of the suspect in the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The suspect who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last week was taken into custody Monday in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The person of interest has been identified as 26-year-old Luigi Mangione.
UnitedHealth Group, the parent company of insurance unit UnitedHealthcare, told FOX Business:
“Our hope is that today's concerns bring some comfort to Brian's family, friends and colleagues, and to the many others affected by this unspeakable tragedy.
“We are grateful to law enforcement and will continue to cooperate with this investigation.
“We ask that you respect the family's privacy during this time of mourning.”
“Our hope is that today's arrest brings some peace of mind to Brian's family, friends, co-workers, and the many others affected by this unspeakable tragedy. A McDonald's employee reportedly noticed Mangione and alerted local authorities. Mangione's LinkedIn page says he works for TrueCar Inc. and attended the University of Pennsylvania.

On December 4, Mr. Thompson, 50, was gunned down outside the New York Hilton at approximately 6:44 a.m. ET as he headed to the company's annual investor day in New York City. He was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The NYPD is leading the investigation and confirmed Friday that it believes the suspect has left Manhattan. The FBI has since joined the investigation, releasing fresh photos of the person of interest over the weekend.

“He matches the ID description we were looking for,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said at a press conference Monday. ”
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney also attended the press conference, and although he did not provide an official motive, he said, “It appears that he has some kind of malicious intent against American companies.''
