A man accused of trying to hijack a passenger plane in Mexico and forcing the pilot to fly him to the United States has been charged with attempting to disarm federal agents and carjack a police vehicle while on the run.
Mexican federal prosecutors identified the man seen on video Sunday trying to force his way into the cockpit of a Volaris plane while being stopped by several passengers as 31-year-old Mario Gonzalez Hernandez. As Breitbart Texas first reported, Gonzalez boarded the plane in Leon, Guanajuato, and was on his way to the border city of Tijuana with his family. However, shortly after takeoff, the man allegedly assaulted the stewardess and tried to force his way into the cockpit. The man was trying to fly a plane to the United States.
According to information released by Mexican federal authorities, the plane diverted to the city of Guadalajara, where federal authorities took the man into custody. The man got into a police car and headed to the detention center, where he attempted to flee.
Information provided to Breitbart Texas by Mexico's Attorney General's Office (FGR) revealed that Gonzalez attempted to disarm the Mexican National Guard with the intention of carjacking a vehicle and fleeing. During the struggle, the vehicles collided, injuring Gonzalez and the other officer in the vehicle.
During interrogation, the man claimed that a relative had been kidnapped and that he had received death threats shortly after boarding the plane with his family.
Gonzalez is currently in a guarded hospital awaiting the results of the investigation into the incident. The FGR is considering prosecuting him on charges of intimidation and assault on federal airways, but is also considering other charges.
