Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) was arrested Tuesday night after she was allegedly attacked at the U.S. Capitol by assailants who claimed to be LGBTQ activists.
As Breitbart News reported, Mace characterized the man as an LGBTQ activist in a post to X.
“Tonight, I was physically assaulted by a supporter at the Capitol. A new wrist brace and some ice in my arm will make it go away. Capitol Police have arrested the man. Your violence and threats against my life only make me double down on FAFO,” she said while calling on people to “hold the line.”
U.S. Capitol Police confirmed the incident and said they had arrested a suspect on suspicion of assaulting members of Congress.
the hill report Police did not specifically name Mace in a statement, but said a lawmaker from the House of Representatives office reported an incident inside the Leyburn House office building in Parliament House just before 6 p.m.
“Officers from the House Division and Threat Assessment Unit pursued the suspect,” police said in a statement.
The suspect was identified as 33-year-old James McIntyre of Illinois. He is charged with assaulting a government official.
Police noted that the Rayburn building was open to the public at the time of the incident, and McIntyre underwent security screening before entering the Capitol.
