Alexa PenaVega on Healing from Grief, Says ‘I’ve Never Experienced God on This Level’

Actress Alexa PenaVega said she has experienced God like never before after losing her baby earlier this year and going through a season of grief. “We really have a community that we've never had before,” she told Crosswalk Headlines, referring to her Christian friends.

“God has given us such an amazing community to walk through this season with and kind of lift us up. I've never experienced God on this level. It's incredible. is.”

PenaVega and her husband, who married in 2014, began their romance by “going to church every Sunday and then going to Bible study every Thursday.” She said their faith grew during their marriage.

“We're learning more and more,” she said of her faith.

Their latest movie is the romantic comedy The Great American Family Please bring him back for Christmaswhich tells the story of a singer played by Pena Vega who tries to win back her boyfriend by writing him a song. To that end, she partners with a high school friend (played by Carlos PenaVega) who is also a talented songwriter. It will debut on December 14th on 8 Eastern.

This will be the first release from the couple's new production company, Good for You Entertainment, which aims to produce more family-friendly content.

“We built this project from the ground up with our team, and it's really amazing to see it actually come out into the world. For some people, it's like, 'Oh, this is a cute great -It's an American Family movie.' But for us, we're like, 'This is it.'” she said with a laugh. “So a lot of things are falling into place. There's been a lot of prayer and just a lot of excitement around this project.”

PenaVega and her husband want to change the public's perception of healthy content, she said.

“We are a faith-filled people,” she said. “…Whether it's the Christian genre or the more wholesome genre, our complaints are about movies that aren't very good for us personally, or that aren't great to watch.” It wasn't. Usually going to the movies requires compromising one's values to some degree. It was a good movie, and we were tired of it.

“We were like, 'Damn, the enemy is okay with us making such a bad Christian movie.'” But to make a good Christian movie, you have to fight against all the obstacles. We also faced many obstacles while making this film. So this is not a movie about faith, but I'll just say we have a kingdom heart. People just make wholesome movies, and wholesome doesn't mean cheesy. We want to change the perception that this is a good movie. ”
