Two police officers injured in a garbage truck explosion in suburban Illinois late last week have recovered and a firefighter has returned to work.
The incident happened Friday in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights. Two video clips shared by police show the entire incident from an officer's body camera and a camera mounted on the dash of a patrol car.
The explosion occurred just before 4 p.m. as authorities responded to a truck fire. FOX 32 Chicago reported.
“The cause of the fire and explosion is under investigation, but the leading theory is that uncontrolled combustion in the hopper of a garbage truck ignited a compressed natural gas (CNG) tank,” the Arlington Heights Police Department said on Facebook. ” he said.

Law enforcement officials told the local Fox Station that the shock wave from the explosion shattered windows, including the windshield of the fire truck, and damaged the roofs and exterior walls of nearby homes.

Three first responders were injured by flying debris and “post-explosion concussions,” FOX 32 reported.
