Hannah Kobayashi has been found safe and sound, more than a month after her mysterious disappearance in Los Angeles, her family announced Wednesday.
The family of Hanna, a 30-year-old from Hawaii, said in a statement released by her attorney to local media that they were “very relieved and grateful that Hanna was found safely.”
“This past month has been an unimaginable challenge for our family. We ask for privacy as we allow time to heal and process all that we have been through.”
The announcement marks the end of a weeks-long, high-profile investigation into how Kobayashi suddenly lost contact with her family on Nov. 8 after missing her connecting flight from Hawaii to New York. It shows.
But last week, police announced that video footage showed Kobayashi crossing the border into Mexico, apparently of his own free will.
Before her disappearance, Kobayashi had been sending a series of strange text messages to friends and family about a “spiritual awakening” and that she had been “deceived.”
In a tragic turn of events, Kobayashi's father Ryan took his own life two weeks after traveling to Los Angeles to look for his daughter.
This is a developing story. Check back for more updates.
