First appearance on Fox: House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, suggested that oversight of the bureau's response is far from over, even after FBI Director Christopher Wray announced he was resigning.

In comments to Fox News Digital on Wednesday, Jordan called Wray's resignation “great” news and slammed the FBI's response.

“So Chris Wray was investigating mothers and fathers attending school board meetings. He wrote a memo that said, 'If you're a pro-life Catholic, you're an extremist.' ” The FBI retaliated against the whistleblowers who had provided us with such information, and we discovered that they had been spying on Congressional staff and their metadata. And, of course, they raided President Trump's home,” Jordan said.

Mr Wray had previously denied targeting pro-life activists. He also defended the FBI's response to a Department of Justice (DOJ) memo that warned of conduct at school board meetings, but said last year that issuing the order “was not enough to justify law enforcement nationwide.” There is no persuasive basis for doing so.”

Mr. Jordan has made no secret of his thoughts about Mr. Wray's leadership and has overseen multiple investigations into his leadership by the House Judiciary Committee.

“Oh, yeah,” Jordan said on Fox News Digital when asked if this oversight will continue.

“And I think there's a report coming from the inspector general that will shed more light on what's going on downstream,” Jordan said.

Fox News first reported early Wednesday that Wray intended to step down seven years into his 10-year term.

Meanwhile, candidates to replace Trump have already been meeting with senators for days ahead of their expected confirmation hearings.

“After several weeks of careful consideration, I have decided that it is right for the department to serve until the end of the current administration in January and then step down. My goal is to remain focused on our mission – our essential work. “You represent the American people every day,” Wray told his FBI colleagues. “In my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the Secretariat deeper into the fray while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to the way we work.”

Jordan told Fox News Digital that he was not surprised by Ray's decision.

“That means once the president appoints someone to replace you, you have to leave,” Jordan said.
