Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) warned Wednesday that a successful run of the Senate by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) would be a “disaster” for the country.
Mr. Ossoff will be running against former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) in the 2026 midterm elections, six years after he defeated former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) in a hard-fought race that helped Democrats control the Senate majority at the time. He will defend his seat.
President-elect Trump has previously floated Greene as a potential Senate candidate, and Ossoff has warned that she could be a potential challenger.
“Donald Trump wants Marjorie Taylor Greene to ask questions on your behalf at your Senate confirmation hearing. If we can get her to attend Kash Patel's FBI director confirmation hearing, His dream will come true,” MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell said Wednesday on “The Last Word,” referring to Trump's pick for FBI director.
“As you know, Congressman Greene, [an] “It's a very divisive, passionate, partisan MAGA brand of politics, and I think that's going to be an electoral issue for her in Georgia,” Ossoff responded. “However, given the former president's support in the primary, there is a good chance she will be a general election candidate.”
“It would be a disaster for this country if Marjorie Taylor Greene were elected to the United States Senate,” he added.
Trump suggested he would fight “like hell” to replace Greene in March 2023 if the Georgia Republican runs for the Senate, a comment Ossoff echoed during an appearance on MSNBC on Wednesday. Looks like I mentioned it.
“Why don't you run for the Senate?” Trump told Greene at a campaign rally in Texas at the time. “I will fight as hard as I can for you.”
Hill has reached out to Trump's transition team and Greene's office for comment.
