Details emerge of Bill Belichick’s contract at North Carolina

Details of Bill Belichick's contract with North Carolina State have been revealed after he was officially named the Tar Heels' next head football coach.

Belichick will receive a base salary of $1 million and ancillary income of $9 million, with the first three years guaranteed and the fourth and fifth years non-guaranteed.

According to his term sheetBelichick could earn up to $3.5 million a year in bonuses tied to wins, postseason appearances and North Carolina's College Football Playoff rankings.

For example, Belichick would receive $150,000 if he led the Tar Heels to an eight-win season (North Carolina won six in 2024), and his pay would increase by $50,000 for each win thereafter, reaching a maximum of 12 wins in a season. The amount will be $350,000.

Belichick will receive a $200,000 bonus for appearing in the ACC title game, increasing to $300,000 with a win.

If Belichick leads the Tar Heels to a non-CFP bowl appearance, he will earn a $150,000 bonus, jumping to $350,000 for an “elite” bowl appearance.

What constitutes an “elite” bowl game is not specified.

Making the College Football Playoff would earn him a $750,000 bonus that could increase to up to $1.75 million.

Belichick could earn up to $500,000 if he finishes in the top five in the CFP poll.

There is also a provision that if the employee is fired by June 1, 2025, the purchase price will be $10 million, and the amount will drop to $1 million after that date. According to On3.com.

Belichick was upbeat on Thursday at a press conference to introduce him as the new manager.
