De’Vondre Campbell seemingly quits on 49ers on ‘TNF’

Devondre Campbell flatly told the 49ers' coaching staff during the third quarter of San Francisco's 12-6 loss to the Rams on Thursday Night Football that he didn't want to play when the team needed him. Ta.

Campbell left the field and entered the 49ers' locker room in the third quarter, but after the game, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that the linebacker had expressed interest in being on the field to the coaching staff. He revealed that he told them that there was no such thing.

“He said he didn't want to play today'' Shanahan he told reporters.

“When someone says that, we move on. We can't deal with it anymore,” Shanahan added. “It's someone who doesn't want to play football, it's that simple. I think our team and myself understand how we feel about that. I don't think we need to talk about him anymore. Masu.”

The 49ers coach also added that Campbell, an All-Pro in 2021, hasn't given him a reason why he doesn't want to be on the field.

Perhaps it could be related to the return of Dre Greenlaw, who hasn't played since injuring his Achilles tendon while running onto the field in the Super Bowl.

Upon his return, Campbell was demoted to reserve for the match.

Campbell had started 12 of 13 games for San Francisco heading into Thursday night, but his minutes had decreased over the past three weeks and he didn't show up on the stat sheet against the Rams.

No matter how frustrated Campbell may have been, his decision to refuse to play and leave the field was a no-brainer for 49ers players, including cornerback Chalvarius Ward and tight end George Kittle. It was not accepted.

“That's just stupid. That's just stupid. So immature,” Kittle told reporters. “I don't understand how someone could do something like that to their team.”

“[He’s] It's probably going to get cut soon, so that's something,” Ward added.
