Mayorkas: No evidence to suggest mystery drones are ‘nefarious’

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has suggested that mysterious drones reportedly seen in the skies of New Jersey and other parts of the country are not “nefarious” or a “threat.”

Mayorkas told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Friday: “We have no knowledge of any threats or heinous activity. Mr. Wolf, I want to reiterate that if we learn of cause for concern, we will communicate transparently. I'll take it.''

His reaction comes amid a growing number of sightings in New Jersey and New York, according to Philadelphia's WPVI-TV. multiple reports Number of flying objects within Delaware and Philadelphia counties.

The Pentagon denied on Wednesday that a foreign country was behind a mysterious drone that flew near a sensitive U.S. military facility in New Jersey.

President-elect Trump on Friday night called on authorities to shoot down a mysterious drone that has been spotted in the skies of New Jersey and other parts of the country.

Asked about his response to Trump's request, Mayorkas reiterated that he saw nothing “out of the ordinary” and posed no “threat.”

Mayorkas stressed that their powers are “very limited,” adding: “You can't just launch drones out of the sky.”

“We have repeatedly asked Congress for more powers to combat drone activity and to give more powers to the state and local officials we oversee,” Mayorkas said. “Congress has rightly pointed out that these powers need to be expanded.” .
