Kentucky sisters Danielle and Alexa Hendricks perform real life ‘Parent Trap’ to surprise their grandparents

Two sisters performed a real-life “parent trap” in which they pretended to be each other to their grandparents to see if they would notice.

Daniel Hendricks, 26, and his sister Alexa, 23, surprised their grandparents, Shirley Carter, 84, and Dan Carter, 85, for Thanksgiving.

The grandparents knew Daniel was visiting, but they didn't realize that Alexa had also returned from New York City to her hometown of Hopkinsville, Kentucky (where they both currently live).

The two switched places mid-conversation, echoing the plot of the classic movie where Lindsay Lohan swaps places with her twin sister.

Daniel entered the house and spoke with his grandparents, then went out into the garden to exchange jackets with Alexa. Alexa returned home and began acting like her sister as part of a prank.

But it didn't take long for the eagle-eyed grandma to notice something was different.

Alexa tried not to make eye contact with her grandmother, who she said she would notice right away, but became upset when Shirley “gasped” and both grandparents began crying tears of joy.

Alexa, a content creator living in New York City, USA, said: “I couldn't even look my grandmother in the eye. I knew she would notice me the moment she saw me.

“My grandmother noticed it first and her mouth dropped and she gasped,” Alexa said. “My grandfather saw Daniel on the other side of the room and didn't notice me standing there. They were surprised and confused and they both started crying. It was pretty sweet. ”

Alexa says that growing up, she and Daniel looked very different, but as they've gotten older, they've become more alike.

“There's a three-year age difference between us, so we were quite different growing up,” Alexa said. “In your 20s, a lot of facial features start to look the same, and red hair turns people off. We definitely look more similar as we get older.”

Alexa has always been close to her grandparents, but since moving to New York City last year, she only gets to see them during the holidays.

The night before visiting them, she wants to surprise them and decides to do a stunt and see if she can swap clothes with her sister.

“I love surprising people. They didn't expect me to come for Thanksgiving, but they knew my sister was coming,” Alexa said. I couldn't sleep the night before and was thinking about how I could surprise them. We wondered how we could make the Parent Trap a reality, and that's what we did. ”

Daniel and Alexa visited their grandparents on November 21, 2024.

But it didn't take long for Shirley to notice something was different.

Alexa said: “I was there for about 40 seconds and my grandma noticed right away.

“I thought my grandma would understand that. She's always concerned about things like that,” Alexa said. “I thought as soon as I started talking, they would notice.”
