On Friday's broadcast of FOX News Channel's “The Story,” White House National Security and Public Affairs Advisor John Kirby said, “We need to develop policy options based on what the mystery is at sea. “It is impossible to shoot down one of these drones.” We know what we're dealing with here, but we don't know enough about it to do something like that. ”
Presenter Martha McCallum asked: “Why don't we pick just one and find out what's going on?”
Kirby replied: “Well, I get it, the idea of removing something is, after all, you want to be concerned about public safety.First of all, we don't think we have enough of a policy to take such a policy action. I don't have any conclusions. But let's just assume, Martha, that we did that. We don't want to shoot something down where it might hit someone's house or hurt someone. Probably not.”
McCallum then interjected and asked. “The Coast Guard says they have 30 people chasing one of the ships at sea. So will that work?”
Mr. Kirby replied: “Again, we need to develop policy options based on what we know we're dealing with here, but we don't have enough knowledge to take those kinds of actions. But we're sorry, we're going to do everything we can to investigate and share as much as we can. We understand that it's frustrating for people. We want to know too.”
