Are you feeling a little heavy about the holiday season?
According to the New York City Police Department, three off-duty police officers have already been arrested this month on suspicion of drunk driving.
The bust comes as the holiday season is in full swing and Christmas parties for NYPD, departments and fraternities are in full swing. And the same goes for alcohol.
“It's the holiday season,” a police source said.
However, it is not clear where the officers came from.
Jose DeJesus Jr., 27, was arrested on Staten Island after a single-vehicle accident at 24 Roosevelt St. in Emerson Hill around 7 a.m. Saturday, police officials said.
Police said DeJesus was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while impaired and refusing a breathalyzer test.
The day before, Sheikh Akhtaruzzaman, 28, was arrested on similar charges after he was caught sleeping in his car around 8:30 a.m. inside the 43rd Precinct, which covers the southeastern section of the Bronx. .
Akhtaruzzaman's car was found in the middle of the street at White Plains Road and Wood Avenue in Parkchester, police officials said.
And Donald Johnson, 32, was arrested around 7 a.m. on Dec. 6 at the 108th Precinct in Queens, which includes Long Island City, Sunnyside and Woodside.
Officials said Johnson was pulled over after someone reported the incident.
New York City police officers have also been working more overtime as the force has shrunk in recent years.
