Beauty store owner killed while trying to defend business from shoplifters

A Florida mother and business owner was murdered while trying to stop a shoplifter at her beauty supply store, leaving behind two daughters and a husband just weeks before Christmas.

Il-Sung Miriam Kim, 64, was trying to stop two robbers at her Beauty Max store in Jacksonville, Florida, on the evening of December 6th when the shoplifters stole her car. He hit her and killed her.

“Two people entered the store, one of them grabbed several items and fled the store with the items,” Sgt. Steve Radluff of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. News 4 JAX. “The clerk followed this person to a car that had been reserved for him.”

At least three suspects were involved, two entering the store and one driving the getaway vehicle, Rudlaff said. One of the suspects got into a car with the stolen property, and the third suspect left on foot.

Kim was struck by a car and taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Kim's husband said the store had already had a recurring shoplifting problem, but a nearby business owner said the victim had finally had enough and decided to take action after the suspect. . According to Action News JAX.

“Although she worked alongside her husband for most of her life, Beauty Max was the first business she ran independently,” the family said in part in a statement. “We don't know exactly why she decided to confront the shoplifters, but there had been recent thefts at this store.”

Someone even had the “audacity” to steal from a store the day after Kim's death, her family added.

The investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been made.
