biden released The statement read in part: “From Newtown to Uvalde, Parkland to Madison, and the countless high-profile mass shootings, it is unacceptable that we cannot protect our children from this scourge of gun violence. We can’t continue to accept this as normal.”

Near the end of his statement, he said, “My administration has taken aggressive action to combat the epidemic of gun violence. We passed the most important gun safety legislation in nearly 30 years. , I took more executive actions than any president in history to reduce gun violence and created the first-ever White House Gun Violence Prevention Office.”

Biden then pressed for more.

“Congress must pass common-sense gun safety laws: universal background checks; national red flag laws; bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”

The Associated Press reported that the Madison shooter was a 17-year-old woman. This means that because she was too young to purchase the gun, she was too young for a background check at the point of sale to have an impact. Furthermore, it also means that red flag laws could not have stopped her, and since she allegedly used a handgun, the “assault weapons” ban would certainly have had no effect. .
