Ventura Counties ‘Shoplift With a Cop’ blitz operation yields 37 arrests

As the world gets into the holiday spirit, the Ventura County Retail Theft Task Force's Shoplifting by Cop blitz is working to make the holiday spirit a little safer.

Ventura County, California, authorities on Thursday announced the results of a weekend operation dubbed “Shoplifting by Cop” that led to drug seizures and the arrest of 37 suspects, including several juveniles.

“This operation resulted in the arrest of 21 adults and 16 juveniles, the recovery of nearly $2,000 in stolen property, and the seizure of burglary tools and various narcotics, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine,” the statement said.

The task force conducted a holiday “blitz” operation at Pacific View Mall in Ventura last Friday and Saturday.

“This effort highlights a significant shoplifting problem that not only affects shopping malls, but also businesses throughout the county,” the sheriff's office said.

This operation was a collaborative effort by task force detectives, along with members of the Sheriff's West County Special Enforcement Unit, District Attorney's Office Investigations Bureau, and members of Target, J.C. Penney, Macy's, and Allied Security loss prevention and asset protection teams. I was disappointed. .
