Trump: 'Liz Cheney could be in a lot of trouble'

President-elect Trump has announced that former Rep. Liz Cheney will be investigated after a recent report from House Republicans recommended a criminal investigation into the former lawmaker over her role on the House committee investigating the January incident. (R-Wyo.) predicted there would be “problems.” In June 2021, the Capitol was attacked.

“Based on the evidence obtained by the subcommittee, Liz Cheney could face significant problems.'' The committee concluded that “a number of federal laws were likely violated by Liz Cheney; These violations should be investigated by the FBI,'' Trump wrote in an early post. Posted on Truth Social on Wednesday morning.

He also praised Congressman Barry Loudermilk (R-Louisiana), chairman of the House Administration Committee Oversight Subcommittee.

His post comes less than a day after the subcommittee released a 128-page interim report analyzing what Republicans called the “failure and politicization” of the Jan. 6 House committee. The now-disbanded committee unfairly blamed Trump for the Capitol riot, and it was formed illegally.

“speaker [Nancy] Pelosi's multimillion-dollar task force is a political weapon with a singular focus on duping the public into blaming President Trump for the January 6 riot and tarnishing the legacy of our first president. ”, the report said.

The committee also said the FBI investigation into Cheney should be completed. The former No. 3 House Republican was charged with witness tampering for his contacts with former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson.

Cheney, who has been Trump's most vocal critic since his loss in the 2020 presidential election, accused the report of fabricating “lies” and “defamatory allegations.”

“chairman [Barry] Loudermilk (R-Ga.)'s “Interim Report'' deliberately ignores the truth and the task force's extensive evidence and instead fabricates lies and defamatory claims aimed at covering up Donald Trump's conduct. Cheney said in a statement.

“Their claims do not reflect a consideration of actual evidence and are a malicious and vile attack on the truth. No reputable lawyer, lawmaker or judge will take this seriously.” she added.

Republican lawmakers also accused the Jan. 6 committee, chaired by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Mississippi), of deleting evidence collected. But committee members condemned the attack, saying they had followed everything required by the law published on a government website.
