Hornets exposed for taking PS5 away from kid in Christmas skit

Fans are furious after Hugo the Hornet, the not-so-friendly Charlotte Hornets mascot, gave away a Christmas gift in front of fans, only to have his precious gift taken away when no one was looking.

The Hornets' best Grinch impression began Monday night during a second-quarter timeout against the 76ers when a kid and his uncle walked to midcourt and the boy's Christmas wish list was read out. .

“Dear Santa Hugo,” the game's MC read on behalf of the young fans. “I've been working hard in school for a year and making sure my grades are all A's. I've also been working on my jump shot. But the '2K' jump shot needs a little work. . If you have a PlayStation, you'll want it. PS: PlayStation 5, not the one my dad used to play. ”

The mascot then handed him an unopened PlayStation 5 box, and a gift bag came forward. This shocked the young fan and put a big smile on his face.

The happy story took a turn for the worse when X user @StanUSmnt revealed that the organization took back the gift shortly after he gave it to his child.

“You guys want to watch a cheap sports organization? In this video, my best friend and his nephew are called to the court for a special corner and they give the kid a PS5 in public… With it removed, they took it away and gave him the jersey. Take a bow. @hornets… you crushed the kid,” the user wrote to X.

The accusation proved accurate, as the Hornets released a statement acknowledging the story told on social media.

“During (Monday) night's game, there was an on-court skit that missed the mark,” the organization said in a statement. “The skit involved poor decision-making and poor communication. Long story short, we apologized for turning the ball over. We have communicated with the family and will do our best to make sure we do the right thing.” We strive to exceed expectations.”

In response, families will receive “a PS5 and (a) VIP experience for future games.”

Charlotte lost Monday's game 121-108.

This terrible idea highlights one of the worst teams in basketball, and perhaps the entire organization.

The Hornets have the second-worst winning percentage in the NBA since 2000 (41.6 percent).

Charlotte is 7-29, the fifth-worst record in the NBA this year.
