​Homeowner shoots and kills intruder who threatened him, New Mexico police say​

New Mexico State Police say a man was shot and killed Saturday after breaking into a home and threatening the homeowner.

the police said they were called Go to Appler Rd home. on reports of shots fired in La Luz, near Alamogordo.

“The young children were asleep in bed during the altercation and were not injured.”

Investigators found 45-year-old Lucas Moore shot to death in the kitchen. The homeowner said Moore broke into his home and threatened him. When the homeowner ordered him to leave, Moore continued to threaten him, so the homeowner allegedly shot and killed him.

The homeowner called 911 to report the shooting, police said. He told them that Moore knocked on the door, then pried it open and forced his way inside.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate Moore, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The homeowner said his wife and three children were in the home. The young children were asleep in bed during the altercation and were not injured.

No charges have been filed against the homeowner, but the police investigation is ongoing. They plan to submit the case file to the District Attorney's Office after the investigation is complete.

La Luz is a census-designated community of approximately 1,615 people located in the south-central part of the state.
