Gunmen stormed a secret cockfighting ring and began firing into the crowd, killing four people and wounding three. The shootout is the latest in a wave of extremely violent crime plaguing Mexico, although the government insists the country's security has improved.
The attack occurred on Sunday night in the suburb of Manzanillo, Colima city, Colima state. An unknown group was hosting a secret cockfight. A group of men arrived at the ranch and began firing into the crowd. processo reported. Government officials have not released any information about the incident, but unofficial reports say four men were killed and three others shot dead.
The national army and military rushed to the scene and clashed with the armed men as the group fled. Local residents shared cellphone videos of the gunfight on social media.
Due to silence from state authorities, it remains unclear how many people died in the attack and how many were the gunmen who died in clashes with police.
The shootout in Colima comes amid a further wave of mass shootings targeting crowds across Mexico. At the same time, government officials have done little to address this trend.
