Democrats May Help Mike Johnson Remain Speaker

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) told reporters Friday that House Speaker Mike Johnson's best chance of keeping the gavel is to allow House Democrats to vote for him. .

If Democrats, along with some establishment Republicans, allow Mr. Johnson to remain speaker, Mr. Johnson would enter into a power-sharing agreement with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. will make demands from Mr. Johnson in exchange for Democratic votes.

A power-sharing arrangement in the House would look unwelcome to President-elect Donald Trump, who won a landslide election to carry out his own agenda, not Jefferies or the establishment's.

“There may be an attempt to blow everything up, but I don't think so. I think the Democrats are smarter than that.” romney said Reporters argued that Mr. Johnson was capable of surviving with Democratic support. “They will support him.”

According to Mr. Romney's predictions, Mr. Johnson's chairmanship appears to be in an untenable position. Mr. Johnson either accepts the Democratic vote and remains chairman, overruling Mr. Trump's mandate and infuriating the Republican base, or he does not run for re-election.

Without a single Democratic vote, Johnson can only lose one Republican in the House. Up to 25 House Republicans could vote against Speaker Johnson, the House Republican leader. said Matt Boyle of Breitbart News.

President Trump's confidence in Johnson appears to be worsening. He launched a move against Mr Johnson on Thursday by not committing to him remaining as chairman.

Rumors are swirling in Washington that President Trump engineered Johnson's failure in order to unite House Republicans under new leadership.

The presidential election is scheduled for January 3rd.
