With 2025 just around the corner, Jason Bottenfield, Global Advisory Partner and Managing Director at Steward Partners, joins Brad Smith to outline four tips for investors heading into the new year.
First, Bottenfield says the end of the year is a great time to review your portfolio allocation and see if it's in line with your investment strategy and goals. “Go back to strategic allocation,” he points out.
Second, if an investor owns a bond that has a loss, “that might be an area where you can take a little bit of that loss and offset it against the gains you made that year, or at the end of the year, It will rebalance to strategic allocation.”
Bottenfield's third tip is to check your retirement accounts and their allocations ahead of the new year to make sure your 401k, IRA, or other account matches your risk profile.
Finally, Bottenfield said investors should exit international markets and opt for U.S. stocks.
