Monica McNutt is a Knicks studio analyst for MSG Networks and a Knicks radio analyst on 880 ESPN Radio. She takes on a Q&A with Post columnist Steve Serby.
Q: Why do the Knicks have so much control over this city?
A: They are New York. I have had the experience of bumping into fans and conversations just on the train or walking down the street. They represent New York and are part of the fabric of New York, right? Even before I became a broadcaster covering professional sports, I remember playing against Christ the King here in New York in high school. Or I knew a team out of New York, like Team Exodus on the AAU circuit. …The phrase “New York City security guard” has permeated sports at all levels. So for me, having a professional team that embodies the heart and grit and tenacity of this city and ignites just about everyone in terms of passionately rooting for this team is a reflection of what they represent. I just think this city is distinctive in a very unique way compared to other sports franchises that probably represent other cities.
Q: Can you imagine what New York City would be like if the Knicks won their first NBA championship since 1973?
