This time last year, the Mets had not yet signed Sean Manaea. They hadn't added J.D. Martinez and Harrison Bader yet. They had just traded for Tyron Taylor and Adrian Hauser.
In other words, President of Baseball Operations David Stearns didn't have much of a role until this point in 2023. There are still moves to be made, and that's been the case for Sterns and the Mets this offseason.
This is a message to impatient and anxious Mets fans. It's a reminder that Stearns is watching his timing and waiting for the right moment to strike. Other than the blockbuster 15-year, $765 million signing of Juan Soto, it's been a relatively quiet offseason for Queens so far. They made two low-profile moves, acquiring Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas, and re-signed Manaea to a three-year, $75 million contract earlier this morning. However, they have yet to bring in a corner infielder or make any major additions to the bullpen (Holmes is expected to be converted to a starting pitcher).
Mets fans wanted to see more action. I feel that both the batting lineup and pitching staff are lacking. they are right. But it was wrong to not let it happen.
