Walker Buehler chooses Red Sox on 1-year deal after winning 2nd World Series with Dodgers: reports

Walker Buehler, the star pitcher who recorded the final out that clinched the Los Angeles Dodgers' World Series championship in 2024, has found a new home in MLB.

Buehler has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox to add more strength to their rotation next season.

According to multiple media outlets, the contract is worth $21.05 million. Yahoo Sports will earn you an additional $2.5 million in performance bonuses.

Boston has been focused on acquiring starting pitchers this offseason, most notably having previously traded Garrett Crochet to the Chicago White Sox. They also signed another left-hander, veteran Patrick Sandoval, to a two-year contract just a few days ago.

The Red Sox also have breakout years in Tanner Hawk, Lucas Giolito, Cutter Crawford and Brayan Bello, completing a good mix of starting pitchers for 2025.

Buehler's career has been interesting to watch, as he was one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball from 2018 to 2021, carving out hitters as a potential future Dodgers ace.

However, things changed in 2022, when he underwent Tommy John surgery for the second time after being selected in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Dodgers in 2015.

Buehler returned to the rotation in 2024 and started 16 games, posting an impressive 5.38 ERA and 1.55 WHIP.

But once Los Angeles' postseason season began, Buehler remained in the rotation, working an incredible 12-6 curveball and looking like an old-school pitcher, dotting fastballs wherever he wanted.

Buehler ultimately pitched in Game 5 of the World Series against the New York Yankees with a nine-inning shutout, taking one day off after pitching five innings early in the series.

That being said, what happens to the 28-year-old during this free agency period was something that baseball experts and fans alike were interested in.

Now, the Red Sox are offering Buehler a good deal to prove that what we saw in October is what we should expect going forward, or at least that's the plan for a one-year deal. I understand.
