Where Analysts Think Bitcoin is Headed in 2025 – Investopedia

Important points

  • Analysts at Bitwise, Standard Chartered, and VanEck expect Bitcoin to rise to between $180,000 and $200,000 in 2025.
  • Analysts say inflows into Spot Bitcoin ETFs in 2025 could be similar to 2024 numbers.
  • Bitcoin prices could also rise if the US decides to introduce a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve.

Bitcoin (BTCUSD) had a strong year in 2024, topping a number of price milestones, including $100,000, as a combination of factors increased investor confidence in the leading cryptocurrency.

It all started with demand related to the Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), which began trading in January, then the excitement of the halving, which will limit the supply of new Bitcoin, and then the cryptocurrency following Donald Trump's re-election. Expectations for support policies continued. President Trump appears to have been strengthened by several post-election appointments.

The Fed's latest predictions for interest rate cuts next year have shaken up the crypto market, but some of the aforementioned reasons for optimism are still on the table. However, if the Fed slows its rate-cutting campaign, U.S. Treasury yields could continue to rise and be volatile, experts say. Investors are moving away from Bitcoin and other risky assets.

This is why some analysts remain bullish on Bitcoin, but warn of future volatility.

Analysts see more room for Bitcoin

Before the shock of the Fed meeting, digital asset management firm Bitwise's forecast for 2025 predicted that Bitcoin would rise above $200,000 for the first time. That amount would rise to $500,000 if the federal government adopted Sen. Cynthia Lummis' plan to purchase 1 million bitcoins as a “strategic bitcoin reserve.”

President-elect Trump also supports the idea of a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve, but there are questions about how much Bitcoin the government could hold, whether it would be added to existing holdings, and what the purpose of such a reserve would be. is hardly clear.

Analysts at Standard Chartered have similar price forecasts for Bitcoin, joining Bitwise in predicting that inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs in 2025 will remain at the same level as this year. We are doing so. These funds hold Bitcoin as the underlying asset and require investors to purchase Bitcoin when they pour in their funds. Bitcoin ETFs have seen more than $36 billion in net inflows so far this year, according to data from Pharcyde Investors.

Analysts are also bullish on VanEck, but not by much. They predict that the Bitcoin price will reach a high of $180,000 in 2025 due to the high volatility. They expect Bitcoin prices to fall by about a third (30%) after reaching new highs at the beginning of the year, then go through a period of consolidation during the summer before peaking towards the end of the year. There is.

Currently, the trading price of Bitcoin is approximately $95,000, and the virtual currency's market capitalization is estimated to be approximately $3.26 trillion.
