Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci on Monday urged Elon Musk to distance himself from politics and focus on his successful business.
“Stick to business. Good job. You've made hundreds of billions of dollars since the election,” Scaramucci told Musk in an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN's “The Situation Room.” gave advice.
“Take the gas pedal off a little bit on politics because these people, these people can hurt you. No, you don't have to hurt. You're doing very well in life,” Scaramucci continued. .
Scaramucci, who briefly worked in the Trump administration but has since become an outspoken critic, pointed to the outsized role Musk played in the 2024 election, but said Musk has similar power in Washington. He said he did not expect it to last.
“Listen, he has a very powerful role. He has a $44 billion megaphone. He has over 200 million followers and Wolf, he contributed to that election.” said Scaramucci. “I think just what Elon Musk did in Pennsylvania helped the president win that election. That's why he has such a big voice.”
But Scaramucci said that while Musk may be hoping to “go to Washington and change Washington,” he may not have the success he hopes for.
“You have to be very careful because he's making enemies without even realizing it,” Scaramucci said of Musk. “And the incentives in Washington are completely different than the incentives in business. So everyone is motivated differently, sometimes in irrational ways.”
“And I think Washington has a good immune system with the power he's wielding right now, and I think they'll find a way to counter him,” Scaramucci said.
