ESPN first take Host Shannon Sharpe was not at all amused by fellow ESP player Kirk Herbstreit's ribbing for Sharpe's prediction that Ohio State would fire coach Ryan Day.
Sharp blasted Coach Day last week, claiming the school would fire him after the team lost to Michigan during the regular season. But that didn't happen, and on Saturday, Ohio State defeated Tennessee in a 2024 College Football Playoff game.
As the game drew to a close, broadcaster Herbstreit took a swipe at Sharpe and said:first take tried to fire him. They thought he was done. So I can't wait to see what they have to say on Monday after this performance. ”
Herb Streit's little jab didn't sit well with Sharpe, who was excited to be called out, even if it wasn't by name.
during Monday's broadcast on ESPN. first takeCoach Day's case came up, but the discussion was not directed at Ohio State or the coach, but at Herb Streit.
“I'll leave it like this,” Sharpe shouted. “I'll be a good teammate. I'll let it slide. Everybody's on ESPN. 'Cause if you didn't take the path that you chose, I would have lit a fire up their butts, but I You know what? Congratulations, Ohio State. You won the game.
Sharp wasn't finished. We went on to say: “But if we're going to be on the same team, if we're going to work for the same network, don't do that. Kirk, Chris Fowler.”
Sharpe then warned: “I promise you that if you say anything negative about anything or any platform that I'm on again, 'What will they say?' ESPN is screwed.” There are a lot of bosses out there who will just keep you from saying what you're trying to say. So today I'm going to let you guys slide. I'll pass it on to [Dan Orlovsky] Before I get into trouble, please don't play with me! ”
