‘I Have a Lot of Problems with Big Spenders in Both Parties’

On Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said on Fox News Channel's “Fox & Friends” that government spending is spiraling out of control on both sides of politics.

Discussing the 2024 'Festival' report on government waste, Paul said: And here comes the problem. Everywhere you look, you'll find more like this. $1 trillion means we found a lot of waste. But it's everywhere, it's in all the big departments, it's in the State Department, it's in the NIH, it's in the National Science Foundation. And people wonder why it exists every year. We have a department of DOGE, but can they get rid of it? Well, the only way to get rid of it is to make less money. ”

“So it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you give $4 billion a year to the National Science Foundation and increase that to $8 billion, you're going to produce more waste, not less. This has been going on since the '70s, but it has exploded. But we have to be prepared to cut department-wide spending. If we give the NIH more money, there will be more waste.”

Paul added: “They spent $3 million studying how kids behave when they see food ads on Facebook. They asked a bunch of kids to look at food ads on Facebook. The amount is It cost $3 million. So, drilling a hole in a cat's head and spinning it around at high speeds to study motion sickness is actually more like animal abuse than an experiment. I hear you. But the list goes on.”
