Astronauts Suni Williams, Butch Wilmore, Don Pettit, Nick Haig and others sent Christmas wishes on Wednesday.

Williams and Wilmore have been stranded on the ISS since June, after leading Boeing's first astronaut flight to the station.

Their mission will range from eight days to eight months, and their return is expected to be delayed until March.

But the months-long extension hasn't dampened their Christmas spirit.

“It's a wonderful time of year here, and we get to spend time with the whole family on the International Space Station,” Williams said. “There's seven of us here, so we're going to have a good time together. And one of my favorite things about Christmas is getting ready and having fun and getting everyone together.” It's about preparing something and getting ready for the holidays.

The long journey began when the Boeing Starliner capsule they arrived in was deemed unsuitable for return to Earth.
