A popular television newscaster from Georgia fell into a ravine while hiking, prompting emergency responders to perform a daring rescue operation.
Carol Sbarge, who worked at WSB TV For nearly 30 years, my boyfriend and I went hiking in the Chattahoochee National Forest in September.
Her peaceful hike turned harrowing when she plummeted down a steep ravine.
“So somehow, as I was walking down the road, my foot hit a rock, and before I knew it, I fell down this ravine,” she told WSB-TV.

She told the magazine that she broke her ankle in three places during the fall.
Her boyfriend first tried to call emergency services for help, but his calls went unanswered.

Eventually, another hiker came to their aid and hiked off the secluded trail to contact Habersham County Emergency Services.

Crews arrived at the scene after hiking the trail for two miles and immediately investigated the steep cliff where Sbarge fell. Local media reported that ropes and a helicopter were used to slowly pull her out of the ravine.
Officials said this is the first time in history they have airlifted hikers to Panther Creek Falls.
Subaj was airlifted and flown 5.8 miles before being admitted to a local hospital. She told local media that she needed eight screws and a metal plate in her ankle.

“They're just special people. They're putting themselves at risk. You know, you never know what dangers they're going to face every day,” Sbarge said of the rescuers.
