Some Associated Press reporters believe Imane Kerif is the best female athlete of 2024, a new poll reveals.
Kerif, who won the gold medal in women's 66kg boxing at the Paris Olympics, did so despite many claims that as a biological male he was not eligible to compete in the women's category.
Although the International Boxing Association, World Boxing Organization and endocrinology experts all agree that Kerif was born male, the boxer still captivates audiences enough to garner votes as this year's top female athlete.

Kerif was named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year. 4 votes The boxer was ranked third out of 74 sports journalists.
However, basketball star Caitlin Clark won the award with 35 votes, followed by Olympic gymnast Simone Biles in second place with 25 votes.
Olympian and women's sports advocate Jennifer Say called the vote “a (ironically) punch in the face for female athletes around the world.”
she added,”[It’s] It's a black eye for women's sports and the Associated Press. And the woke ones are not silent and remind us that they think men are entitled to be one of the best women. ”

Former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines answered In response to a post about the news, Kerif said that he “has a small penis” and then added: Kerif's “medical records show that he has XY chromosomes, internal testes, no uterus, male levels of testosterone, and a small penis.''
“This means that a man… won the women’s Olympic gold medal. It’s boxing,” Gaines concluded.

Gaines is likely referring to an endocrinology report that said Kerif had no testes, no penis, and XY chromosomes. A pelvic MRI scan also reportedly revealed that she did not have a uterus.
According to the same report, Kerif is suffering from the following symptoms: α5 reductase type 2a genetic abnormality that causes “dysfunction in the metabolism of testosterone and dehydroandrosterone,” which affects prenatal and adolescent sexual development.
The report comes after the WBO announced that a 2022 gender test “unequivocally revealed that the Algerian boxer is biologically male.”
The IBA disqualified Kerif from the women's division in 2023, with president Umar Kremlev saying Kerif had an “XY chromosome.”
Kerif denies being male and has previously filed hate speech complaints against celebrities including Elon Musk and author JK Rowling in France.
