'Driver never hit the brakes': Bystanders lift taxi off pinned pedestrians in Manhattan

Midtown, Manhattan (WPIX) – A bystander in New York City who saw this. A yellow taxi hit six pedestrians. They helped pull the vehicle near Herald Square on Christmas Day, according to the video.

The taxi driver is 58 years old. suffered a medical episodeAuthorities said the man then drove onto the sidewalk near Macy's at West 34th Street and Sixth Avenue around 4 p.m.

Video seen by Nexstar's WPIX showed bystanders taking action to rescue a 9-year-old boy and a 41-year-old woman who were trapped under the taxi shortly after the crash.

“The driver never hit the brakes,” Ryan Tucker, a tourist who helped the victim, told WPIX. “When we got there, everything was still spinning. The boy's foot was under the tire and it was just spinning and smoking. So a couple of gentlemen started the car. We took it down…we were able to pick it up and put it back down and pull it there.'' The boy walked out. ”

The boy suffered a laceration to his right thigh and the woman suffered a head injury, authorities said. A 49-year-old woman suffered a leg injury. All three are expected to recover from their injuries.

Tucker told WPIX that the 41-year-old woman who was pinned under the car was awake and conscious the entire time. According to the tourist, she was communicating with her son (9 years old).

Three others, a 19-year-old girl, a 37-year-old woman and a 49-year-old woman, were also injured but refused medical treatment at the scene.
